A little about Mellie Mack's!
Hi there! My name is Melanie (Mel to pretty much everyone) and I am the face behind Mellie Mack's!
When we were living in our hometown of Ararat Vic, Mellie Mack's started as a Facebook page way back in 2012, when I was selling hand-made crochet goods, mostly kid's beanies and soft toys. As an unemployed stay-at-home Mum, crocheting gave me a creative outlet, and at times, a bit of money to cover my next purchase of yarn.
Mellie Mack's as it is today started when I fell into the planning community in (about) 2013. We as a family had a lot of big changes. I was tutoring children who spoke English as a second language in 2 different primary schools, as well as teaching 4 different classes for clients with special needs at our local Tafe campus. I was forgetting all the little things at home like medication prescriptions, medical appointments and special dates. I needed to get everything into one particular place and so I started to search Google for the planner options out there. There was a lot!
At this stage, I found Erin Condren life planners and quickly fell into the 'rabbit hole' that is planning, stickers, and all of those awesome things. Being a very visual person (and having studied visual arts as a minor study during my teaching degree) I loved that I could bring my artistic side into my planner! The rest, as they say, was history.
So how did the shop actually start? I started following some shops on social media (before I discovered the fantastic Australian community) and became intrigued and inspired by the entire sticker making process. I looked up to these people that were able to work from home and create wonderful stickers. After much research into what I would need, Mellie Mack's started with an old laptop, a fold-out market table as my desk, and after much saving, my very first Silhouette Cameo. Having an artistic background, I was determined to create my own artwork, and armed with an old Samsung Tab 3 and a budget stylus, I got to work sketching drawings and transferring them into digital creations.
Since my Etsy store opened in 2016, I have enjoyed making my creations and sharing them with the greater planning community. I am excited for this new chapter having my own website and continuing watching Mellie Mack's grow.
Thank you to everyone that has helped Mellie Mack's still be here today.
